Short-Term Medical Coverage

Budget-friendly coverage for life’s in-between moments.

What Is Short-Term Medical Insurance?

Short-term medical (STM) plans provide temporary health coverage when you’re between major plans — such as during a job change, waiting for group benefits to start, or outside the ACA Open Enrollment Period without a qualifying life event.
Coverage can last no longer than 4 months, making STM ideal for short gaps but not a long-term solution.

Key Features

  • Fast approval — often within 24 hours

  • Coverage length: up to 4 months maximum

  • Lower monthly premiums compared to ACA plans

  • Choice of deductible and coverage levels

Important Limitations

  • Not ACA-compliant — may not include all essential health benefits

  • Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded

  • May have annual or lifetime benefit limits

  • Preventive, maternity, and mental health coverage may be limited or excluded

  • No subsidies or financial assistance

Who This May Be Right For

  • People between jobs or in a waiting period for new benefits

  • Healthy individuals needing short-term coverage until the next ACA Open Enrollment

  • Students or recent graduates

  • Seasonal or part-time workers without group coverage

Our Role

We help you:

  • Compare STM plans to ACA and private options so you know exactly what’s covered

  • Find the most competitive pricing and best fit for your needs

  • Avoid limited-benefit “look-alike” plans that leave major gaps

  • Transition smoothly from short-term coverage to long-term coverage when ready

Disclaimer: Short-term medical plans are not ACA-compliant, do not qualify for subsidies, and are limited to a maximum of 4 months of coverage. Quotes are estimates and may change based on underwriting, state regulations, and final carrier approval.
The quote request form we use is the same as for ACA/Marketplace coverage for efficiency, but completing this form does not mean you will be enrolled in an ACA/Marketplace plan. Using the same form helps save time and reduces duplicate paperwork later.
