COBRA & State Continuation
COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act)
For groups with 20 or more employees, COBRA allows eligible employees and their dependents to continue health coverage for up to 18 months (or longer in certain situations, such as when a spouse becomes eligible for Medicare) after a qualifying event like job loss or reduced hours.
Mini-COBRA / State Continuation
For smaller groups (fewer than 20 employees), state continuation provides temporary health coverage after a qualifying event. This helps bridge the gap until new coverage begins and ensures ongoing care for medical needs.
